Beauty Brands We Wish Were Easier to Find in Dubai

Published

on

Dubai has one of the most developed beauty retail markets in the region, with major international names available through Sephora, department stores, specialist retailers and online platforms. Yet some brands with strong followings in the US, UK and other markets remain difficult to access in the UAE. In some cases, the brands do not ship directly to the country; in others, there is no established retail presence, leaving shoppers to look overseas or rely on independent sellers.

Rhode

Founded by Hailey Bieber, Rhode has built its identity around a focused range of skincare and makeup designed to simplify everyday routines. The brand is known for products including the Peptide Lip Treatment, Peptide Glazing Fluid and Barrier Restore Cream.

Rhode’s current shipping list covers the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and a selection of European countries, but the UAE is not included. The brand’s own FAQ also lists its authorised in-person retail markets, which currently include Sephora in the US, Canada and UK, as well as selected retailers in Australia and New Zealand.

Rhode does not currently ship directly to the UAE, and its listed physical retail partners do not include the UAE

Merit Beauty. Given the brand’s popularity and tightly curated product range, a UAE retail presence would make its most recognisable products considerably easier to access.

Merit takes a minimalist approach to makeup, focusing on products that can be used across a streamlined routine. Its range includes the Signature Lip, Flush Balm and The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick, with skincare also forming part of the brand’s offering.

The brand’s official shipping policy currently lists the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia, France, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Italy as its shipping markets. The UAE is not among them, and Merit does not ship to freight-forwarding addresses.

Merit products can nevertheless be found through some UAE-based third-party sellers, including listings on Noon and Dubai-based beauty retailers. Those options are different from having the brand available through an official UAE distribution channel.

Cécred

Founded by Beyoncé, Cécred focuses on haircare, with formulations developed around hair strength, moisture and overall hair health. Its range includes the Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual, Moisturizing Shampoo and Moisture Sealing Lotion.

Cécred ships to the UAE, but it does not currently have an established retail presence in Dubai.

Naturium

Naturium has built its reputation around ingredient-led skincare at accessible price points, with products covering concerns such as hydration, exfoliation, pigmentation and skin barrier support. Its range includes the Multi-Peptide Advanced Serum, Niacinamide Gelée Cleansing Gel and The Perfector Salicylic Acid Body Wash.

The brand is widely available in the US, including through major retail chains, but its international distribution is more limited. UAE shoppers may encounter individual Naturium products through online sellers, although availability can vary by product and retailer.

EADEM

EADEM approaches skincare with a focus on products designed for diverse skin tones and concerns. The brand’s range includes the Milk Marvel Dark Spot Serum, Cloud Cushion Airy Brightening Moisturizer and Le Chouchou Exfoliating Pimple Patch.

EADEM does not currently ship directly to the UAE, meaning shoppers may need to seek out individual products through online channels rather than encountering the collection as part of a permanent retail assortment.

EADEM’s emphasis on pigmentation and skin tone makes it particularly relevant to shoppers looking for targeted products that work across a wide range of complexions.

Chanel’s Pirate Lipstick Earns a Place Among Beauty’s Most Recognisable Red Shades

Published

on

Chanel’s Rouge Allure lipstick in Pirate has maintained a place in the brand’s makeup collection, recognized for its blue-toned crimson colour and satin finish. Its association with several well-known figures has also brought the shade into conversations about classic red lipstick, a makeup choice that continues to feature in both everyday beauty routines and more formal looks.

Introduced in 2006, Chanel’s Rouge Allure line features a distinctive lipstick case that opens with a simple press at its base. Its presentation became part of the collection’s identity, combining a black exterior with gold detailing. Over time, the range has included different colours and finishes, with Pirate emerging as one of its recognisable red options.

Listed as shade 99, Pirate is a soft blue-toned red. Its colour sits within the cooler end of the red spectrum, offering an alternative to orange-based and warmer crimson shades.

Pirate was included in Chanel’s 2012 Rouge Allure colour offering, which featured several interpretations of red alongside pink, beige, orange and brown options. It appeared alongside shades such as Incandescente, Coromandel, Palpitante and Passion, each offering a different take on colour. The collection also included a coordinating Le Vernis nail polish in shade 08 Pirate, extending the colour beyond the lips.

The lipstick has been associated with actresses including Keira Knightley, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz and Lupita Nyong’o. Taylor Swift has also worn the shade, pairing it with MAC’s Ruby Woo for her on-tour makeup.

Beyond its colour, the Rouge Allure formula is another defining feature of the product. Chanel describes the lipstick as a luminous, intense lip colour with a silky texture and satin effect, its formula contains a high concentration of fine pigments, alongside a vitamin E derivative and a blend of coconut and castor oils.

The satin finish gives Pirate a soft sheen that enhances the depth of its crimson colour while maintaining an even, smooth appearance on the lips. Its silky texture allows the colour to glide on easily, leaving a luminous finish without excessive shine.

CHANEL makeup artist Julie Cusson has also featured Pirate when demonstrating the range of effects possible with red lipstick. She placed the blue-red shade alongside Rouge Allure Velvet in 57 Rouge Feu, an orange-red, and Rouge Allure Laque in 73 Invincible, a neutral red. The comparison highlighted how different shades and finishes can shape the overall look.

Its continued association with both celebrity makeup looks and Chanel’s beauty history has helped keep Pirate in conversations about the red lip. More than a passing seasonal colour, it has become a familiar reference for those who appreciate a classic red with a distinctive character.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have reunited for Rare Beauty’s latest campaign, recreating scenes from their 2009 Disney Channel film Princess Protection Program and the YouTube videos they made together as teenagers.

Titled: Still Making Each Other Blush, the campaign features a limited-edition Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle, named after the duo’s fan-given nickname. Priced at $50, the set pairs two Soft Pinch Liquid Blush shades: Hope, a nude mauve favoured by Gomez, and Virtue, a beige peach selected by Lovato. A Soft Pinch Blush Brush is also included.

The campaign draws on the pair’s Disney-era memories, recreating the Princess Protection Program poster with Gomez and Lovato in updated versions of the blue and yellow gowns worn by their characters, Carter Mason and Princess Rosalinda. They also revisit their 2008 YouTube series, The Demi and Selena Show,” in a video shared on Gomez’s channel, answering questions, talking about childhood crushes and lip-syncing to One and the Same, their duet from the film.

The actresses first met while working on Barney & Friends as children before pursuing separate projects on Disney Channel. Gomez starred in Wizards of Waverly Place, while Lovato appeared in Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance.

Their latest appearance together follows Gomez’s attendance at the opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep tour in Orlando, Florida, in April. The reunion preceded their collaboration for Rare Beauty, the cosmetics brand Gomez founded in 2020.

Lovato described the campaign as a meaningful opportunity to reconnect through memories they had made growing up. She also noted that she had been using Gomez’s liquid blush, adding that filming together reminded her of their teenage years spent making videos and experimenting with makeup.

Gomez also spoke about the memories they share, describing the campaign as a chance to revisit their past while appreciating how far they have both come. She ended her statement with “One and the same always,” a reference to their duet from Princess Protection Program.

Rather than introducing a new blush formula, Rare Beauty’s release combines two existing Soft Pinch Liquid Blush shades in a limited-edition set. The bundle is available exclusively through the brand’s US website, according to its product listing.

Skin Boosters: The Injectable Treatment Promising Hydrated, Glowing Skin

Published

on

Photo: Getty images

Skin boosters are injectable treatments designed to improve skin hydration and texture without adding significant volume to the face. Unlike traditional fillers, which add volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips, these injectables focus on improving skin quality.

How Skin Boosters Work

Photo: Getty images

Many skin boosters contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that helps the skin retain moisture. Injected into the upper layers of the skin, it attracts water, helping the complexion look plumper and more radiant.

Some formulations may also support collagen and elastin production, although results vary depending on the product and individual. Skin boosters are not designed to lift sagging skin or address every concern, including deep scars and pronounced pigmentation.

How Long Do Results Last?

Results can last up to six months, depending on the product and the individual’s response. Skin may appear smoother and better hydrated, but the treatment does not guarantee flawless results. Repeat sessions may be recommended to maintain the effect.

What Does the Treatment Involve?

The skin is cleaned before the practitioner injects small amounts of the product into the treatment area. A session typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, and some providers use a numbing cream to reduce discomfort. Depending on the product, treatment may be available for the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Redness and swelling usually subside within a day or two, while bruising may take a week or longer to fade.

Are Skin Boosters Safe?

Although generally associated with temporary side effects, skin boosters carry risks. These include allergic reactions and, rarely, vascular occlusion, a serious complication in which an injected substance blocks a blood vessel.

Before booking a session, patients should check the practitioner’s credentials and ask about the specific product being injected. It is also important to check that the injectable is authorised for its intended use in the country where treatment is offered.

Is It Worth Considering?

For those seeking a subtle improvement in hydration and texture, skin boosters offer another option in aesthetic skincare. However, the cost, maintenance required and possibility of complications deserve consideration before booking a session.

Skin boosters may improve hydration and texture, but the cost of repeat treatments and potential side effects are worth weighing before deciding to proceed.
