Eddie Murphy Peels Back the Curtain in New Documentary Trailer “Being Eddie”

Published

on

After almost 50 years of making people laugh, Eddie Murphy is finally sharing his story. Netflix has released the trailer for Being Eddie, a new documentary that gives a rare look into the life of one of comedy’s biggest and most private stars. The film premieres November 12, 2025, and it looks like it’s going to show a side of Murphy that fans have never really seen. The documentary is directed by Angus Wall, who won an Oscar for editing The Social Network. It traces Eddie Murphy’s rise from a young stand-up comic to one of the biggest names in entertainment. The trailer highlights the biggest moments in Eddie Murphy’s career, his breakthrough on Saturday Night Live, blockbuster films like Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America, and his unforgettable role in Shrek. But this time, the story focuses on Eddie himself, not the characters he played.

What stands out most in the trailer is Murphy’s own voice. He talks candidly about the early days of performing in New York clubs, how fame hit him almost overnight, and the pressure of being a young Black man suddenly in charge of the biggest comedy spotlight in America. “My stuff took off because they’d never seen a young Black person take charge,” he says at one point, a line that hits hard because it’s true.

The film also weaves in interviews with a who’s who of comedy: Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx, and Jerry Seinfeld all share what Murphy meant to them and how he changed the game. From their stories, you get a sense that Eddie isn’t just another successful comedian, he’s the blueprint.

What’s most intriguing is that Being Eddie isn’t just about fame or success. The trailer shows Eddie Murphy opening up his home for the first time, giving viewers a glimpse into his private world. For someone who’s been famous longer than most of his fans have been alive, Murphy has stayed private. This documentary feels like him finally saying, Here’s who I really am.

Suspect in Rihanna Home Shooting Enters Not‑Guilty Plea

A Florida woman accused of shooting at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and several other felonies. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz made her plea in Los Angeles Superior Court this week as prosecutors laid out details of the March 8 incident. Authorities say Ortiz drove to Rihanna’s house, pulled out an AR-15-style rifle, and fired around 20 shots at the property.

Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their kids and other people were inside at the time. No one got hurt, but prosecutors said the act was deliberate and reckless, putting many lives in danger. Ortiz now faces charges that include attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an occupied home or car. If she’s convicted of everything. She could spend the rest of her life in prison.

Ortiz, wearing jail attire and appearing behind protective glass, waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. That means there’s more time before a judge decides if the case heads to trial.

Her attorney requested that Ortiz’s bail be reduced from $1.9 million to $70,000, arguing that she does not have the financial means to afford the higher amount. The judge didn’t budge, agreeing with prosecutors that Ortiz is too much of a safety risk and might try to flee.

Investigators haven’t said what motivated the attack or if Ortiz even knows Rihanna personally. Prosecutors did mention that they’re still looking into her social media activity from before the shooting.

Court papers show Ortiz has worked for over ten years as a licensed speech pathologist, but the state attorney general asked the court to stop her from practicing in California while this case is ongoing and the judge agreed.

The case now moves to a preliminary hearing where prosecutors will present evidence to determine if there is sufficient cause for a full trial. Ortiz remains in custody as the proceedings continue.
